In a major international crackdown, Europol has supported a multi-agency operation targeting "The Com"—a dangerous, decentralized network of online groups adhering to a misanthropic and nihilistic violent extremist worldview.

During a series of coordinated Referral Action Days conducted over several weeks, investigators from nine countries flagged and referred an estimated 4,340 URLs containing severe, disturbing, and illegal material for swift removal across online platforms.

What is "The Com"?

Short for "The Community," this network represents an emerging form of nihilistic violent extremism. Unlike traditional extremist groups driven by political or religious ideology, groups within The Com view violence and trauma as ends in themselves. Members gain status, or "clout," by generating, extorting, and broadcasting extreme harm.

• Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
• Extreme animal torture
• Livestreamed or filmed street assaults ("manhunts") and arson
• Manuals on grooming, sextortion, bomb-making, and doxing/swatting tactics
