In a groundbreaking initiative, a coordinated surge by federal, state, and local law enforcement has dealt a monumental blow to the criminal networks that have long plagued the Chicagoland area. This operation, a bold and proactive federal law enforcement initiative, focused intensely on disrupting violent crime and bringing immediate relief to communities.
The sheer scale of the operation, which took place over several weeks, is historic. Today, officials from the Department of Justice announced a staggering set of results that underscore the impact of this unified front.
Operation Results:
- 305 Total People Arrested: A wide net was cast, apprehending hundreds of individuals linked to serious offenses.
- 179 Charged Federally: By leveraging the power of federal law, prosecutors have ensured that nearly 200 of the most violent offenders will face severe penalties.
- 24 Missing Children Recovered: In the operation's most poignant and significant success, two dozen children were located and safely returned to their families, highlighting a core priority: protecting the vulnerable.

The operation, which officials are calling "Operation New Dawn," was not simply an increase in standard police activity. It was a strategic, complex, and intelligence-driven offensive.

- Crimes Against Children: Specialized teams, led by the U.S. Marshals and the FBI, focused exclusively on human trafficking and child exploitation, resulting in the life-saving rescue of 24 missing minors.
